Monet’s Mirror: How to Pastel Paint Monet’s Lilies

The Bridgewater Public Library, 15 South Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324, will host award-winning artist Gregory John Maichack, Tuesday, September 10th, from 6:00p.m.-8p.m. for a workshop, “Monet’s Mirror: How to Pastel Paint Monet’s Lilies”, for adults. Space is limited, so please call 508-697-3331 to pre-register for this free, hands-on workshop with all supplies provided.

Imagine using the actual imagery that inspired Monet to paint his “Water Lily” paintings. Maichack, a Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) pastel demonstrator, offers a new workshop for sheer beginners to advanced, in which you produce your own Impressionist pastel painting. Maichack shares his water garden photos he took on site at Monet’s home studio in Giverny, France, and will paint with you from the same imagery which Monet painted his famous water lilies.

Expressive and fun, you will quickly learn how easy and direct pastel painting is from Machack’s long experience teaching pastel techniques. As always, all will keep their pastel paintings and use hundreds of his professional-grade pastels, paper, and materials.

Award winning artist Gregory John Maichack lives in western Holyoke. He is a portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels. He graduated from Holy Cross College with a B.S. in Experimental Psychology in 1974. He also took his first art course there in 1970. Since then, he has trained with such notables in the field of pastel portraiture as internationally acclaimed Daniel Greene, the Copley Society’s Constance Flavell Pratt and Foster Caddell. Maichack is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Academic Artists Association, Lyme Artists Association, Connecticut Pastel Association, Pastel Society of the Southwest and the Degas Pastel Society. He has been in many national juried shows and has been awarded numerous Massachusetts Cultural Council grants.

Maichack, a MCC Gold Star Program Award nominee, is a faculty member of the Quadrangle Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, MA, and of the Guild Studio School at Eastworks. He also teaches in the continuing education departments at Greenfield Community College, Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College.

Mr. Maichack’s website is available at www.GregoryMaichack.com.

This project is supported in part from a grant from the Bridgewater Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. It will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room on the lower level of the library, which is accessible by elevator. Parking is available in back of the library.
