A Sentimental Journey Swing Dance and Canteen

Bridgewater’s One Book One Community Committee invites the public to attend “A Sentimental Journey Swing Dance and Canteen” event on Sunday, November 3rd from 1-4p.m. at the Bridgewater Veterans’ Club on Bedford Street.

The Swing Dance will feature the music of The Olde Kids on the Block. Founded in 1991 by a group of musical retirees, the band’s focus is on music of the 30’s, 40’s, and early 50’s, including the tunes of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton.

“A Sentimental Journey” is part of Bridgewater’s One Book One Community program focusing on Elizabeth Norman’s non-fiction story of American nurses captured by the Japanese during WWII: “We Band of Angels”. One of the “angels” was Helen Cassiani from Bridgewater.

Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar will be available. In addition, as November 3rd is the wedding anniversary of Helen and her husband, Capt. Edward Nestor, a wedding cake will be cut and served to attendees as part of the celebration.

Admission is $10/person. Tickets are currently available at the Bridgewater Public Library, at the Bridgewater Senior Center, and from the Bridgewater State University office of Susan McCombe (smccombe@bridgew.edu).

One Book One Community partners include: Bridgewater State University, the Bridgewater Public Library, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School, Williams Intermediate School, Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library, the Bridgewater Senior Center, the Raynham Senior Center, and the Bridgewater State University Bookstore.
