AAUW Meeting

On Wednesday, October 9th, the Taunton branch of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) will meet at the Taunton Public Library, 12 Pleasant Street, Taunton. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m., and will feature Juli Parker, who will speak about pay equity.

Since 1995, Juli Parker has been the Director of the Women's Resource Center, now the Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality. From 1995 – 2011 she was an Affiliate Faculty for the Women's Studies Program at UMass Dartmouth. She has a BA in Theatre/Dance from the University of Maine, an MA in Women's Studies from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences with a focus in Theatre and Women's Studies from the Union Institute & University. She is the recent recipient of the UMass President’s Office Roy J. Zuckerberg $100,000 Leadership Prize and a 2012 YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts Women of Distinction Award. She is a founding member and former co-chair of the Bristol County Commission on the Status of Women. Her edited anthology Representations of Murderous Women in Literature, Theatre, Film, and Television: Examining the Patriarchal Presuppositions Behind the Treatment of Murderesses in Fiction and Reality was published in 2010. She writes a weekly blog, The Feminist Critic, providing weekly critiques of theatre, film, books, politics and pop culture from a feminist perspective. In her free time, she likes to act and direct at local theatres.

AAUW membership is open to all women who hold an Associate or equivalent, Baccalaureate or higher degree from a qualified educational institution. Undergraduates may become AAUW affiliate members.
