Bridgewater-Rayhnam SEPAC and the Bridge Center Presents

Exceptional Lives project summary: Exceptional Lives has developed a new online navigation tool for parents & caregivers of children with a disability. The free software tool is designed to walk parents step by step through the complex or overwhelming processes they face in caring for their child. The first process they are helping parents navigate: ensuring their families are prepared for a potential crisis or emergency involving their exceptional family member. Families will create individualized emergency preparedness plans using the software. With the assistance of Exceptional Lives and trained college volunteers, parents will walk away with an emergency preparedness plan by the end of the 45-to-60-minute session. They can then use and share their plan with other members of their child’s caregiving team, to make sure everyone is on the same page if/when a personal or public emergency occurs.

Jay O’Brien has worked in the disability field for 12 years, following positions in the US Senate in Washington and in high-tech marketing/communications in Boston. His experience includes nine years as a field office director for Special Olympics Massachusetts. Jay has an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, where he was a Harvard Alumni Public Service Fellow. He has a BA from Holy Cross College.
