The Creation of the American Presidency

“Hail to the Chief” The Creation of the American Presidency at the Bridgewater Public Library lecture presented by Historian and Professor Gary Hylander on February 23rd at 6:30 p.m.

Join local Historian and Professor Gary Hylander to hear his prevalent topic of the American Presidential office.

The Constitutional Convention of 1787 was in the words of Connecticut

Governor Samuel Huntington a “new event” in human history. In the midst of this “new event”, nothing was newer than the creation of the Office of the President and the Electoral College. Unanimously elected the nation’s first president, Washington was well aware of his unique position: “I walk,” he wrote, “on untrodden ground.”

The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Public Library, is free and open to the public.
