The Town of Bridgewater wishes to invite the community and local press to attend a grand opening of the newly renovated Bridgewater Academy Building. The grand opening, on Sunday, December 4th at 11:30 AM caps off a major three-year renovation project to rehabilitate the historic structure into usable work spaces for the Town’s administrative offices. The project was funded through capital bonding and with funds approved by the Bridgewater Community Preservation Committee. The total cost of the project was $7.5 million.

The Academy Building renovation project was conducted by Town of Bridgewater in cooperation with Tappe Architects, Bargmann, Hendrie & Archetype, Inc., and M. O’Connor Contracting, Inc. The furnishings of the interior were selected by the Town in cooperation with Workplace Management and Creative Office Pavilion. The new, modern Academy Building fountain and seating area was the collaborative effort of the Town and the Bridgewater Improvement Association. Of the new amenities within the building, chief among them are the Town Council Chambers, meeting spaces, and a state of the art energy efficient climate control system.

The Academy Building has served the community in various capacities over the last century, as a privately owned preparatory school, a high school, Bridgewater Police Department and most recently as town offices.

Put it Down Campaign

Nearly 25% of all car accidents are due to cell phone use and that number is on the rise. Many in our town no longer feel safe to be behind the wheel or for our kids to be riding bikes or crossing the street. It has to stop.

We as citizens of Bridgewater have the power to bring change. Our police department can't solve this alone and we can't sit idle while people continue to get hurt.

Please donate to help create the "Put It Down" campaign. The money raised will be used to create lawn signs, car window decals and banners. It will be a constant reminder to those driving in Bridgewater that texting and driving is not tolerated in our town.

The goal is to go way beyond signage though, we want Bridgewater to set an example to other communities.

The campaign already has the support of Chief Delmonte and the Bridgewater Police Department now needs residents to help fund the creation of this campaign. In addition, the campaign is also in need of homeowners on major roads to volunteer to host a sign.

Together we can make an impact.

1st Parish Bridgewater Theater Production Press Release

On the heels of its 300th anniversary, First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church will be premiering a musical entitled “Fireflies,” a heartfelt show for all ages about life, death, memories, and the enduring power of love set to music from the 60’s to the present. The show will take place at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday, November 11th, or Saturday, November 12th, at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door, and are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for guests ages 12 and under.

“Fireflies” is the directorial debut of playwright Tony Winters, member of First Parish and alumnus of Bridgewater State University. Winters has written several non-musical plays, and this production is his first musical endeavor.

“‘Fireflies’ tells the story of a family crisis 13 years in the making,” Winters says, “and will bring the audience on a musical and emotional journey.” Winters selected music that audience members of any generation could enjoy. The show will feature songs from The Beatles, Florence and the Machine, James Taylor, and Muse, among many more.

In addition to being Winter’s premiere stage production, “Fireflies” is also the first performance of the First Parish Players. This new theater company consists of 13 members of the church, many of whom have been First Parish members for over 20 years. Winters added that, “Our cast is talented, hardworking, and excited to give the audience a night to remember while giving back to their church community.”

All proceeds from the show will benefit the First Parish 300th anniversary fund.
