Pedro Pires Institute Gala At BSU Open To The Public

The official launch of the Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies at Bridgewater State University will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 3, and feature the institute’s namesake, the Honorable Pedro Pires, former President of the Republic and Cape Verde’s first Prime Minister.

Starting with a reception/silent auction at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and a full program, the evening will also feature a number of governmental and business leaders from Cape Verde and the Cape Verdean community across the region.

The launch of the institute represents the culmination of a decade-long effort to position Bridgewater State University as the global hub for Cape Verdean Studies as the institute is the only academic center in the world exclusively devoted to the study of the diaspora.

The event, which will be held in East Campus Commons, 125 Burrill Ave., is open to the public. For tickets and more information visit give.bridgew.edu/iCV2016 or contact Luisa Goncalves at 508.531.2622 orluisa.goncalves@bridgew.edu. Deadline for tickets is Thursday, Nov. 10.
