BSU Launches New Emergency Notification System

Bridgewater State University is launching a new system to provide emergency alerts to the campus community.

The BSU Police Department, in conjunction with BSU Information Technology Division, will be providing an additional method of receiving emergency notifications using desktop alerting software called Alertus.

The new system is part of BSU efforts to expand the ability to reach persons in their offices, labs, and classrooms. By moving beyond simple email, phone, SMS texts, public address announcements and social media, BSU is able to more fully alert and warn the campus community of situations.

On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at 4:00 p.m., BSU will test the new alert system and some existing systems. Persons on campus will hear an audible public address. Concurrent with the siren test will be text, phone, email messaging and a test launch to the Alertus Desktop system.

A second planned message will follow approximately ten minutes later at 4:10 p.m.

For more information about being safe before, during and after a disaster, please go to www.bsupolice.com

The Federalist Papers Lecture

“The Federalist Papers” an informative lecture at the Bridgewater Public Library presented by Historian and Professor Dr. Gary Hylander on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:30 pm.

Published between 1787 and 1788, the Federalist Papers are the most important American contribution to political theory. Drafted by Madison, Hamilton, and Jay, the Federalist Papers were written to gain support for the ratification of a new Constitution and to discredit the objections of the Anti-Federalists to the Constitution who feared its centralizing powers and national authority. In the Federalist Papers, Madison, Hamilton, and Jay explained the principles of the new Constitution and carefully outlined how it would work to improve the lives of “We the People” and serve to create “a more perfect Union.”

Dr. Gary Hylander is currently an independent scholar who specializes as a presidential historian, a pedagogical specialist for the National Endowment for the Humanities and professor of history.

The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Public Library, is free and open to the public.

3. There will be independent evaluators both running the tryouts and grading the performance of tryout participants.

4. There is no cost to tryout for players who are registered in advance. Players not registered in advance for tryouts must pay a $20 tryout fee.
