AAUW Meeting

On Wednesday, October 16th, the Taunton branch of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) will meet at the Holiday Inn, 700 Myles Standish Blvd., Taunton. A dinner will be served to members beginning at 6p.m., followed by an after-dinner lecture.

The speaker will be Adrienne Williams, an actor from the musical play, We Did It For You: Women’s Journey Through History, who portrays Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth. Her favorite role is to play Sojourner Truth, a former slave, abolitionist and suffragette. Truth is also known for her famous “Ain’t I a Woman” speech, which Williams performs. Williams retired in 2016 from a 45 year career in education, and has served as a special needs teacher, principal, trainer, and founding member of the New Bedford acapella group UMOJA.

Membership in AAUW is open to a graduate holding an associate or equivalent or a bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution. Student affiliates are enrolled in an associate’s or a bachelor’s program at an accredited two or four year institution.

The AAUW, founded in 1881, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Additional information about the AAUW can be found on their website at www.aauw.org.
