Santander Extends Gift to Bridgewater State University for Bridge Partnership, Study Abroad

Santander Bank, N.A. (“Santander”) and Bridgewater State University (“BSU”) have announced an agreement where Santander Universities will continue its support of the university’s Bridge Partnership program and continue to fund the Santander Study Abroad Scholarship program. Through a $125,000 grant to BSU, the Bridge Partnership and Santander Student Abroad Scholarship programs will benefit more than 150 students annually.

“Santander recognizes the immense value of our partnership with Bridgewater State University through the Bridge Partnership Program,” said Seth Goodall, Executive Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Santander Bank, N.A. “We’re also grateful to work together to provide opportunities for students in Southern Massachusetts the chance to experience college immersion or the chance to take broaden their world view through study abroad programs.”

For the fourth consecutive summer, Santander will support the Bridgewater State University Foundation to broaden the base of educational outreach services provided by the university for the Bridge Partnership, a residential summer program for middle school students in the gateway cities of Brockton and New Bedford. Santander’s support has expanded the number of students participating in the program over the years.

The Bridge Partnership offers two two-week sessions in July that have brought more than a thousand middle school students to the BSU campus over the past six summers to experience college life. Students live in a university residence hall, take courses with BSU faculty and education majors as well as their own teachers; and tour educational, cultural and historic sites across Massachusetts.

Bridgewater State University students seeking to study abroad experiences are selected as Santander Scholars on a semi-annual basis with eligibility being weighed by the degree of their documented financial need. Depending on other available aid sources, each Santander Scholar will be awarded up to $2,500.

The BSU Study Abroad program offers more than a thousand courses in 50+ countries all over the world in countries as far away as China or as close as Canada. Students who study abroad can spend a week, a semester or a year abroad and still graduate on time.

“Our ongoing partnership with Santander has enabled Bridgewater State University to expand our outreach efforts to enable more students to experience life-changing educational opportunities,” said President Frederick W. Clark Jr., Esq. “Whether it’s a middle school student who never thought college education was attainable, or a BSU student who always wanted to travel and study abroad, our relationship with Santander makes those dreams possible.”
